At some point, early in my architectural career, the notion that an architect must understand buildings became an irrepressible conviction prompting me to enroll in the Detroit Michigan International Masonry Institute Bricklayers Apprentice School and ultimately earn my Bricklayer and Allied Craftsman Journeyman's license and 3G SMAW certificate from the American Welding Society.
