Born in Michigan City, Indiana and raised in Michiana, Michigan, I enjoyed a modest but idyllic childhood along the shores of Southern Lake Michigan.

In 1987 I graduated from the University of Detroit School of Architecture with honors. Upon graduation, I began my career at Albert Kahn Associates (AKA) in Detroit, Michigan. AKA is the Architectural and Engineering firm founded in 1895 by the father of industrial architecture and, perhaps, the world’s foremost industrial architect, Albert Kahn. It was during my 12 years with AKA that I fostered the notion that architects could benefit from a more practical rather than theoretical understanding of building science. In accordance with my conviction, I pursued an International Masonry Institute (IMI) apprenticeship and earned my Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman (BAC) certified bricklayer journeyman license and 3G SMAW from the American Welding Society.

Lacking adequate opportunities to explore my areas of interest at my current position, I formed the P2 Collaborative in 2012. I foster collaborative relationships and build upon my many years of architectural practice in my new role. As you might expect, a hands on approach to designing and building remains the foundation of the P2’s exploration of materials and methods through the pursuit of thoughtful design.
